Kerikeri, New Zealand

Historic Kerikeri is located just 3 hours north of Auckland, is located in a major horticultural region and is one of New Zealand's top tourist towns.  It is also the largest town in Northland and is one of the fastest growing towns too.  Its pleasant climate and close proximity to the famous Bay of Islands means that there is always something to do in this lovely town.

Water activities in the Bay of Islands

With the Bay of Islands so close and other nearby bodies of water, there is no doubt that water fun is at the top of just about everyone's list.  Such activities attract both locals and tourists.  Take a cruise to the “Hole in the Rock”, or get up close with nature on a Swimming with Dolphins trip.

There are also other companies that offer sailing, kayaking and other boating fun to visitors.  Many of these are suitable for the whole family and they will keep everyone occupied and entertained for an extended period of time. One of the most popular water activities is diving and trips can be made to view the Rainbow Warrior and the HMNZS Canterbury.

In addition, there are also guided fishing trips where you will be taken out by a professional and given the chance to reel in your very own catch!

Things to do in Kerikeri

Kerikeri has many wonderful historic buildings, as well as a thriving arts and crafts scene. Don't forget to visit the Farmers Market, held every Sunday in Kerikeri. Visit Kemp House, New Zealand's oldest building; and the nearby Stone Store, originally built to hold supplies on the original mission farm; and now a place you can shop for authentic new Zealand goods.

For something more relaxing and tranquil, take a trip to Rainbow Falls.  There are various walking options and you can choose between shorter and longer routes depending on how much time you have to spare.  It is advisable that you make your way out with enough time to spare.  The experience isn't just about reaching the falls but also taking in nature and enjoying a long enough break at the falls themselves too.  This experience is too precious to rush, according to a number of previous visitors.

The Parrot Place is a lovely place for the whole family.  Here you can enjoy a close look at some of the world's most colourful and sociable birds.  There are even opportunities for visitors to interact and hold them!  Be sure to have your camera handy for some of your best holiday photos!  If you are a fan of nature, then you will also love to visit the Aroha Island Ecological Centre.  There are camping facilities and plenty of chances for you to encounter some local animal life.

Along with all the nature-related attractions, there are also other sites like Rewa's Village that allows for an interesting learning experience and plenty of speciality shops like the Makana Chocolate Boutique where you can satisfy that sweet tooth.

A trip to Kerikeri is a wonderful way to escape the stress of everyday life.  It's perfect for couples, groups and families.  There are also spas and relaxation facilities to help you really get rid of al those worries!
