Gisborne, New Zealand

The city of Gisborne with its art deco buildings is the gateway to Eastland, and is located on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island and, given its coastal location, it's easy to see why there are so many fun water activities for the locals and visitors to enjoy.  The area isn't only known for its ocean fun but also the numerous wineries and wine tasting locations as well.  This, along with a number of scenic locations and other fun is what makes it such a great spot for all travellers to visit.

Things to do in Gisborne

The road to the East Cape Lighthouse is a scenic and pleasurable drive along the cliffs.  To access the lighthouse, you will need to walk for about another 15 minutes or so but it is very much worth the effort.  If you make your trip early enough in the morning, you can enjoy watching the sun rise!  Take some coffee along and some breakfast snacks, take a break and enjoy watching the sun greet the world.

For those looking for a bit more adventure and are up for trying popular Kiwi fun, a trip down the Rere Rockslide is a must!  It is within close proximity of the Rere Waterfall and is a big an attraction for the locals as it is for tourists.  You can choose to slide down on a body board, inflatable tube or just about any water device! 

For those interested in the local history, culture and up for a learning experience while on holiday, the local museums are absolutely lovely.  Top choices include the East Coast Museum of Technology and the Tairawhiti Museum and Art Gallery.
