Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, New Zealand

Punakaiki is most famous for the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes (internationally recognised as one of New Zealand's visitor icons). Visitors are often less aware of the great many other experiences available.

Located on the West Coast of New Zealand, 40 minutes drive north of Greymouth, in the heart of the Paparoa National Park, the area offers guided beach, forest and mountain walks, family canoeing, wildlife, horse trekking, surfing, gemstone hunting, caving and climbing, heritage sites ,or simple rest and relaxation. There are taverns, cafes and restaurants, and a great range of accommodation. The area also boasts a vibrant arts and crafts community and a cooperative gallery.

Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, New Zealand is located near the centre of the "Great Coast Road", one of the most spectacular coastal drives in the world. The roads are well sealed all the way. To allow time to stop and enjoy some of the walks and coastal views, we recommend allowing much longer than the drive times given in most travel guides.

Beach walks, gemstone, sunsets, towering limestone cliffs, a relaxed lifestyle amongst lush bush on the shores of the Tasman Sea... it's easy to see why so many artists have made their home on the wild and inspiring Punakaiki Coastline.
