Wellington - Rotorua - Taupo - Wellington

An escape on our New Zealand Tours North Island to our thermal wonderland and world famous lake.

Day 1: Wellington - Rotorua

Travel north along the Kapiti Coast and then ascend the central plateau, where the peaks of  Mt Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe stand watch over Lake Taupo.  Pass the steam fields of Wairakei and exotic forests to arrive in fiery Rotorua. We recommend you attend a fascinating Maori hangi and concert tonight (optional).  Stay 2 nights in Rotorua.

Day 2: At Rotorua

This morning see roaring geysers, boiling mud pools at the thermal area, tame trout at the springs and performing sheep and dogs at the Agrodome.  This afternoon is free and there are many activities to enjoy.

Day 3: Rotorua - Taupo

This morning your coach will travel south past the steam fields of Wairakei to Lake Taupo, in the centre of the North Island. A guided tour will take you to the mighty Huka Falls, Wairakei, the Aratiatia Rapids and the Craters of the Moon. The remainder of the day is free to explore this lakeside town. Stay 1 night in Taupo.

Day 4: Taupo - Wellington

Skirt Lake Taupo and cross the volcanic landscape of the Desert Road past the majestic peaks of Tongariro, Ngaruahoe and Ruapehu. Continue through Manawatu and along the rugged Kapiti coast to Wellington.
