Contained within Nelson Lakes National Park is the pristine mountain lake of Lake Angelus. The lake lies in an alpine basin surrounded by tussock, rocky mountain ridges and towering peaks, such as Mt Angelus standing majestically to the south of the lake. Our 3 day Guided Walk to Lake Angelus, New Zealand is an all inclusive package - starting and returning to Nelson. Day One - Nelson to Lake Angelus Hut We travel by vehicle from your accommodation in Nelson to the Mt Robert carpark situated above Lake Rotoiti, Nelson Lakes. From here you will begin your gourmet walk up to Bushline Hut where you will have morning tea. Then along the Mt Robert ridgeline to Lake Angelus and the Lake Angelus Hut (elevation 1600m). We stay each night in the Angelus Hut which is a Department of Conservation hut, where your guides prepare a fantastic gourmet meal. Day Two - Explore Angelus Basin, Mt Angelus or Mt Cedric The following day depending on the weather, we explore either the Angelus Basin, hike up the wilderness peak of Mt Angelus (2075m) with magnificent views of Lake Rotoroa and the small tarns or the smaller Mt Cedric (1532m). Day Three - Lake Angelus to St Arnaud via Cascade Track The third day consists of walking down the Hukere Stream on the Cascade track towards the valley floor and into the Travers Valley. After a short amble we are picked up by Water Taxi and from here we transfer back to Nelson, arriving just in time for any connecting flights, or an opportunity to explore Nelson further. We have become known as the gourmet guided walk company, not only because of the high standard of food that is presented, (we cater for all dietary requirements) but also the personal, relaxed and friendly style of trips we orchestrate, with an emphasis on your comfort and enjoyment of the experience. Whether it is information on the flora and fauna, conservation gems along the way or just the great company of your group and guides. Tour Grading: Medium
NOTE: The accommodation on the track is Department of Conservation huts - these are comfortable but must be shared with other walkers. Guests carry their own pack containing clothing and bedding plus own snack pack and utensils (last two items supplied). Guides carry all food and cooking utensils.
