Napier, New Zealand

Napier in Hawkes Bay is a coastal city located on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island.  Together with the nearby city of Hastings, these two are often referred to as the Twin Cities.  One of the main reasons for this city's success over the years is its seaport.  Napier is the main city servicing the wine growing region of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand’s oldest wine growing district. Today, the local activities and sights vary to suit different interests and keep visitors entertained.

Outdoor activities in Napier

A trip up Te Mata Peak is one of the top local activities in the area.  Locals and tourists love this spot so much that they even come here to snap some memorable wedding photos!  From the top, you can enjoy a full view of the Hawke's Bay area including Havelock North, Hastings and Napier.

The Cape Kidnappers tractor ride along the beach is the best way to view the cliffs, shoreline and the local gannet population.  Visitors can walk around the area before returning on the tractor.  Of course, you want to take special care not to disturb the wildlife.

If you fancy a relaxing stroll, the Ahuriri Estuary Walk is for you.  The entire walk is relatively flat which makes it perfect for all fitness levels and you can enjoy the scenery at your own pace.

Other popular outdoor activities include a trip up Bluff Hill for a spectacular view and a relaxing day out at Tiffen Park.

For cyclists there are some great-self guided bike trips on the Hawkes Bay Cycle Trail, part of Nga Taerenga - New Zealand’s Cycle Trail network.
