Who can enter New Zealand without a visa?

Citizens from Visa Waiver countries can enter New Zealand for short holidays without applying for a full visitor visa.

Eligible Countries

This list includes the United States, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and many European nations.

  • UK Citizens: Can stay for up to 6 months.
  • Other Visa Waiver Citizens: Can stay for up to 3 months.

Entry Requirements

Although you do not need a physical visa, you must hold a valid NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before you travel. You will also need to pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) at the same time.

At the border, you must satisfy officials that you have:

  • A return or onward ticket to a country you have the right to enter.
  • Sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay.

Exceptions

  • Australian Citizens: Do not need a visa or an NZeTA.
  • Australian Permanent Residents: Do not need a visa, but must hold an NZeTA.
