Ohau Ski Field
The Ohau ski field is located on the Ohau Range in the Main Divide. It is just off the highway that runs from Twizel to Omarama. The ski area is set 2000 metres high on Mount Sutton. From the top, you can enjoy views of the picturesque Lake Ohau along with the valley that reaches out to Mount Cook.
Ohau is a regular Ski Area Service Award winner and it goes beyond just offering great skiing and snowboarding opportunities. Visitors can escape the crowds and enjoy a spectacular ski area that many people don’t get the chance to experience. Not to mention the exhilarating atmosphere and friendly staff! It’s no wonder the drive here from Wanaka is so worth while. On top of all this, visitors can also enjoy some great hiking and the challenge of off-piste terrain. With all of these advantages, it’s no wonder that this ski area is ranked as a favourite among ski touring clients.
The Ohau ski area is serviced by a platter, a double chairlift and a magic carpet. Beginners can enjoy an extremely gentle slope serviced by the easy going magic carpet while the platter lift provides access to a special area for further development and progress.
For those who can ski at a more intermediate level, you can enjoy a number of top to bottom runs accessed by the chairlift. Included is the fantastic, long groomed run called “The Boulevard” and a number of off-piste options. The chairlift allows access to more thrilling rides for experienced riders. As you travel across to the left, you will access steep straight runs like Escalator and Exhibition. Thanks to the regular snowfalls in Ohau, you will enjoy fresh powder while the main trails are regularly groomed.
