Auckland City Sights and Waitomo Glowworm Caves Combo
Tour Combo: Save $56
Day 1 - Auckland City Sights Morning Tour
Considered one of the best places in the world to live, Auckland is also one of the top destinations among world travelers, brimming with tourist attractions that you can discover first-hand on a half-day tour. Travel through the city centre on your way to the Auckland Harbour Bridge where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city skyline and size up the vastness of Hauraki Gulf dotted with emerald islands. See why Auckland is nicknamed the “City of Sails” at the vibrant and posh waterfront of Viaduct Harbour. Make your way through Queen Street, the city’s main artery named after Queen Victoria, and continue on to Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park and, at 75 hectares, one of the largest. The venue of choice for many of New Zealand’s large outdoor events, the Domain rises out of an extinct volcano and houses cherry groves, duck ponds, tropical gardens, glasshouses, art installations, and the Auckland War Memorial Museum standing prominently on the crater rim.
Refresh with a cup of tea (own expense) in one of the many stylish cafés in Parnell Village before cruising along the waterfront route of Tamaki Drive on the way to Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park. The park offers an excellent lookout point from where you can soak up sweeping vistas of the city of Auckland, Eastern Bays and the Waitemata Harbour before going back to downtown Auckland.
Day 2 - Waitomo Caves Day Tour
Go on a whole-day tour of the magical Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Travel through the lush farmlands of the Waikato and King Country Regions on the way to this small town in Central North Island. A 45-minute guided tour takes you around the world-renowned Waitomo Caves, an underground network of limestone caverns which house stalagmites, stalactites, helictites, and other fascinating rock formations that formed over a period of 30 million years. The tour ends with a short but mesmerizing boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto where thousands of tiny glowworms illuminate the subterranean cavern like little stars on a dark night.
Your enchanting tour of the caves is followed by a visit to the Waitomo Visitor Complex to learn more about the region and soak up views of the native bush. Enjoy some leisure time and local cuisine at the onsite restaurant and café (own expense) before boarding the coach for the drive back to Auckland, arriving there in the afternoon.
