Our fantastic value Bay of Islands, Hobbiton & Waitomo Combo tour features three must-see destinations in North Island. On your first day full day tour to the beautiful Bay of Islands with cruise out to the "Hole in the Rock" and Cape Brett Lighthouse. Keep a look out for the dolphins and whales that frequent these waters. Return to Auckland and next day travel through Waikato to Matamata for a Movie Set tour of Hobbiton, as depicted in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbiton movies. After a delicious lunch at the Green Dragon Inn, travel to the famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves for a tour and underground boat trip through the magical glowworm grotto.

Each day you depart Auckland about 7:30am arriving back in Auckland about 8:10pm.

Handy tip:

This tour combo requires two consecutive days in the aforementioned order. Both tours depart daily. Please remember that accommodation in the Bay of Islands is not included in this tour combo.

Day 1Bay of Islands Day Tour with Hole in the Rock Dolphin Cruise

The Bay of Islands is home to native forests and sub-tropical bush to, and picturesque coasts. It consists of 144 spectacular islands and its sheltered waters make the perfect home for several marine species.

Hop on board the Dolphin Seeker, a specially built catamaran which has been licensed by the Department of Conservation for dolphin and whale watching. A three-hour cruise will take you around the islands where you can enjoy the fresh salty air and the breath-taking sights along the way. 

Make your way around the Cape Brett Peninsula, home of the famous Hole in the Rock and the Cape Brett Lighthouse. If weather conditions allow, your skipper will take you through the hole itself! The views from the spacious outdoor decks are fantastic. Keep your eye out for for common and bottlenose dolphins, whales and, various marine life as you make our way around the Bay. You will return to Auckland after your cruise.

Day 2Hobbiton and Waitomo Caves

Take a full-day tour of the Central North Island, visiting the magical Hobbiton Movie Set and Waitomo Glowworm Caves for guided tours of these must-see attractions.

Board your coach in Auckland and travel south to the small town of Matamata. Just outside the town is a 1,250 acre farm, spotted by Sir Peter Jackson and his team and handpicked to be transformed into a filming location for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. On your guided tour you can walk through the village of Hobbiton that was carefully built and decorated for the films. Your guide will show you Hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, the Mill and other set items, and might even spill some secrets about how the movie magic was made.

At the end of your tour, feast on a delicious lunch at the Green Dragon Inn before boarding your coach and crossing through the countryside into the King Country region, to the township of Waitomo. Since the late 1800s visitors have flocked to the Waitomo Caves, a network of underground caverns and tunnels carved out of limestone by flowing water.

During your 45-minute Waitomo Caves tour you will see stalactites, stalagmites, columns and pillars and visit the amazing Cathedral cave, before taking a short underground boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto to see the glowworms twinkling overhead in the darkness.

At the end of your Waitomo Caves tour, return to Auckland, arriving in the early evening.

Availability: If the Waitomo Caves tour cannot operate, a free upgrade to the Ruakuri Cave will be provided subject to availability. If the Ruakuri upgrade is provided, the Waitomo Caves portion is non refundable.
