Overview

Stay in the stunning location of Mt Cook National Park and photograph some of the grandest alpine scenery surrounding New Zealand’s tallest mountain on a 3 Day Mt Cook Bespoke Photography Tour.

Take advantage of your proximity to shoot from sunrise to sunset, in a wide range of locations in and around the park, most notably from the Hooker and Tasman Valleys to capture unparalleled shots of Mt Cook, or in Tasman Lake to photograph fascinating iceberg formations. Look up and appreciate the clear skies and absence of light pollution in Mt Cook, putting you in front row to take mesmerizing pictures of the Milky Way above the Southern Alps.

Vary your perspective during the workshop with an optional ski plane flight (at additional cost) up the Tasman Glacier to touch down at about 2300m, a perfect place to capture the first rays of daybreak across Southern Alps.

Day 1Queenstown to Mt Cook

You have the option of meeting us at Mt Cook Village this morning, or an early pickup from Queenstown, with travel to Mt Cook included in the workshop. After assembling at the Hermitage Hotel, our home for the next three nights, we will head out to explore locations in the park for the rest of the day. There will be plenty of time to cover settings for advancing your landscape photography, before heading out for an evening shoot in the Tasman Valley.

Hotel: Stay 2 nights at the Hermitage, Mt Cook

Day 2Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park

The day begins with the option for some pre-dawn astrophotography before heading back to the hotel for breakfast. The rest of the day will be taken up alternating between locations in the park. We will capture the panoramic views of the Tasman and Hooker valleys, including alpine lakes, sweeping river vistas and the beautiful alpine flowers. (depending on the season).

All the locations we visit are within easy walks along well-graded tracks on the valley floors. For those wishing for a more adventurous full day hike today, we have the option to take an uphill climb to a high viewpoint in the park, to capture vistas of New Zealand’s highest peaks, glaciated valleys and alpine tarns.

Day 3Mt Cook to Queenstown

After a sunrise shoot to capture the first alpine glow on the summit of Mt Cook, we have the option to venture further afield to explore more of the beautiful Mackenzie Country. Should the weather allow, if you are wishing to do some aerial photography, there will be an opportunity to take a flight over Mt Cook. (on demand and not included in the list price)

The day will end with a late afternoon departure from Mt Cook or return transport back to Queenstown.
