Today you will be picked up in Queenstown between 8.00 and 8.30am, and then transfered to the beginning of the Rail Trail in Clyde. After lunch it's time to tackle Tiger Hill (at a gradient of 1:50, there's no reason to panic). Continue down hill to Omakau and Lauder. Our driver can meet you at either destination and will bring you to our properties in Ranfurly. Dinner at Ranfurly Lion Hotel.

Day 2Lauder to Ranfurly 48kms Cycling

After breakfast, our driver will take you back to wherever you finished cycling the previous day. You cross the Manuherikia River again, ride through the Poolburn Gorge tunnels and onto the 37m high Poolburn Viaduct. Then head on down the Raggedy Range to the Ida Valley, where you can see the Ida Burn Dam, which is a natural skating rink during the winter months. If you like, a side trip to the Hayes Engineering Works can be made before lunch.

Take a break and enjoy lunch at the Oturehua Tavern or the Ida Valley Kitchen. After lunch you will continue up to Rough Ridge and, at 618, this is the highest point of the Trail. From here, it's an easy ride down to Wedderburn and possibly some afternoon refreshments before the final 8kms to Ranfurly. For dinner, our driver will take you to a historic country hotel.

Day 3Ranfurly to Middlemarch60kms Cycling

The ride takes you across the Maniototo Plain from Ranfurly to Waipiata. This is followed by a lovely run along the Taieri River to Kokonga and Daisybank. Prices Creek brings you a 32m high Viaduct and 152m long Tunnel (in case you were wondering, this is where that torch will come in handy!). Indulge in a late lunch at the Otago Central Hotel in Hyde and enjoy its view back down the trail you've just conquered.

This afternoon, cycle past the Hyde Railway Station.  In 1943, 21 people lost their lives in a tragic accident here. As you make your way from the Taieri Gorge, the land before you broadens into the Strath Taieri plain. Keep your eyes open for cloud formations referred to as the Taieri Pet over the Rock and Pillar range.

Our driver will meet you at the end of the Trail in Middlemarch and take you to one of the cosy cafes for some well-deserved refreshments. However if you wish to travel to Dunedin via the Taieri Gorge Railway, you may have to skip the cafe as our driver will take you and your luggage to the 'station' at Pukerangi.

Alternatively, you can enjoy a superb scenic drive back to Queenstown, with numerous stops for sightseeing, refreshments and a chance to stretch your legs.
