Overview

A maritime scenic reserve in New Zealand measuring 100 square miles, the 5 Day Bay of Islands Kayak Classic from Paihia is what paddling dreams are made of, blessed with many islands, reefs and rocks that are just waiting for you to discover. Start your kayaking journey from the depths of the inner bays then venture out to the outer fringes of Cape Wiwiki or Cape Brett.

The protected waters of the Bay make an ideal setting for cruising or simply relaxing and soaking up the scenery, or exploring the numerous rock gardens that the Bay is famous for. Discover myriad caves and breathtaking passages out in the Black Rocks and at the two Capes. There are also plenty of white sand beaches and reefs with clear turquoise waters scattered in between so you’ll have many swimming and snorkelling areas to choose from.

Signs of early Maori civilization can be seen throughout the Bay. Old Pa (village) sites and other historically important places abound. Europeans also first settled in New Zealand here, so there are many historical points of interest, some of which we will see along the way.

No need to rough it on this kayaking trip. We like to be comfortable even while camping, and our extensive experience over the years means you’ll have a great time on the water and at the same time enjoy fantastic camp food that will tease your palate.
