As you wander beneath towering tawa, rewarewa, and rimu trees, the forest hums with life and song. The air is filled with the calls of kākā, bellbirds, and fantails, creating a natural soundtrack nique to Aotearoa. In the kākā clearing, you can pause to watch these playful parrots socialise and soar through the canopy.
Take a moment to rest at the base of an ancient northern rātā and marvel at its vast roots merging into the forest floor. Small group sizes ensure a peaceful and personal experience, giving you space to absorb the beauty around you. Whether you choose to continue exploring or unwind with a cuppa at the Visitor Centre, the forest’s calm presence will stay with you long after your walk.
Check-in & Timing
- Arrive at least 10 minutes before your tour at Manu Tīoriori Visitor Centre.
- The guided tour lasts 75–80 minutes and typically finishes in the Te Tūī ā Tāne southern enclosure. If you're short on time, let your guide know, and they may be able to adjust the route for a circular walk.
