Contemporary Voices and Creative Perspectives in Toi Art
The Toi Art galleries present contemporary works that explore identity, belonging and representation in modern New Zealand. Featuring Māori, Pacific, Asian-New Zealand and international artists, the collection offers a broad and inclusive view of contemporary practice. Many works challenge traditional ideas through bold use of form, material and storytelling.
The guided tour highlights selected works across Te Papa’s contemporary galleries, focusing on key pieces rather than every display. Guides share insight into women artists, recent acquisitions and works making their Te Papa debut, adding valuable context throughout the experience. Over approximately one hour, visitors are encouraged to engage through conversation and reflection in a relaxed, accessible setting.
