Walks and Viewpoints on Rangitoto Island
The Summit Track is the island's most popular walk, winding through lava fields and regenerating native forest before reaching the summit. The reward is a breathtaking 360-degree panorama across Auckland, the Hauraki Gulf and neighbouring islands.
Visitors can also venture into the island's fascinating lava caves, formed by volcanic activity hundreds of years ago, or wander to the historic Bach Village near the wharf. For those wanting a more relaxed visit, McKenzie Bay and Beacon Lighthouse provide excellent picnic spots with beautiful coastal views.
