Overview
Our tour guide will meet you at northern New Zealand's Waitangi Wharf near Paihia where your cruise ship tenders you ashore. You will then join a 6-hour scenic adventure through the Bay of Islands, including the enchanting Glow Worm Caves, with a lively group tour that promises unforgettable sights and experiences.
We arrive at the Kawiti glow worm caves, our first stop after a short scenic drive. Here, you will be enchanted with thousands of luminous glow worms before moving on to the small “train town” of Kawakawa also famous for its quirky and must-see Hundertwasser-designed public toilets. We then continue to the 15,000-hectare Puketi Forest for you to see up close the majestic Kauri trees.
Kerikeri comes next on our itinerary, a town brimming with rich and colourful history and noted as the base for the boutique Makana Chocolate Factory. Watch how chocolate is made, take a few bites, and browse and shop for wonderful treats. Buy crafts and collectibles for souvenirs at the Kauri Workshop next door.
Next, we travel to the “big noise” of horseshoe-shaped Haruru Falls located in a hidden valley on the serene and scenic Waitangi River where plenty of photo opportunities await.
To cap off the day, we stop at the Waitangi lookout loop where you could admire the magnificent spread of Waitangi and the Bay of Islands before you. Finally, it’s time for the trip back to the wharf, or if your ship departure time makes it possible, for a drop-off in Paihia for some shopping and sightseeing. To rejoin your ship, simply catch the free shuttle bus back to the Waitangi tender wharf.
If you decide to stay in town longer, your guide will supply information as to where to catch the shuttle buses back to the tenders.
