Overview

We pick you up from either Tauranga or Rotorua for this Bay of Plenty Private Photography Day Tour and workshop in New Zealand.

Captain James Cook named the stunning “Te Moana-a-Toi” Bay of Plenty in 1769 after he observed that, compared to other bays, it offered abundant food supplies. Today, a budding landscape photographer will be rewarded with plenty of natural thermal features, dynamic coastline, and breathtaking waterfalls. Our goal is to guide you to these locations and help you capture that hero shot you will be proud of.

Learn how to shoot long exposure waterfalls and magnificent coastal landscapes on this tour.  One of our professional landscape photographers will be there to share expert photographic know-how and lead you into any one of a selection of locations for a photography experience tailored uniquely for you.

Itinerary

We collect you from your accommodation or a pre-arranged location (Rotorua or Tauranga) to start your tour. A short briefing follows, after which you will be given choices of an itinerary to create a personalised tour. You can choose to stay local to your accommodation and from there, discover and experience several different waterfalls at various locations ideally suited for long exposure photography.

Alternatively, if you are willing to start early, you can journey to a more remote location in the morning and encounter one of the Bay’s secluded beach locations that make for a fantastic portfolio of dynamic seascapes. Venture deep into the forest in the afternoon and marvel at Tarawera Falls, the Bay’s most stunning 65m-waterfall, in full-flood. Should our time allow, we’ll make the most of the opportunity to go above the cliff line to capture the falls as it cascades, a perspective that not many visitors get to photograph.

Waterfall photography requires a set of specific settings, and on this tour you will learn how to adjust your camera’s settings and use our ND filters to capture long exposure images and bring out the best of the scenery. You will also get to enhance your knowledge with composition tips and advice regarding image processing. Your tour ends on your return trip to Tauranga or Rotorua.

Start time of the tour: The tour starts at a time flexible to work around your travel schedule and sunset hours. We recommend you begin the tour to coincide with a sunset shoot near your accommodation. After you’ve made a booking, we will keep in touch with you to confirm a pick up time best suited to your requirements.
