Overview
Due to the impact of COVID-19 the Mitai Māori Village evening experience is temporarily closed.
This is your opportunity to combine your cultural experience with an enchanting visit to Rainbow Springs Nature Park at night.
Following your visit to Mitai, you are escorted through the bush to start your night-lit extravaganza of the nature park.
View wildlife and bush under an array of coloured lights. This is a truly magical blend of Maori Culture and nature in a unique all-in-one night time package to be remembered.
A guided tour of the night-time Kiwi walk through enclosure is also included.
Throughout your time at Mitai Maori Village, you will enjoy the following:
Authentic
Explore the beautiful bush environments of the Mitai Maori village while getting to know about its history as a thriving, flourishing community. Here, you’ll get to see natives dressed in a traditional garb, paddling an ancient warrior canoe – known as a waka – through the Wai-o-whiro stream. In this stream you will also find the glow worms of Rotorua in their natural habitats. Take advantage of this one chance at seeing these creatures in action. Watch the eels and trout swimming in the crystal clear waters as well to complement the truly enchanting encounter of the so-called ‘Fairy Spring’.
Entertaining
Witness a performance showcasing genuine Maori culture complete with entertaining songs, dances, games, and even the Haka, an epic Maori war dance.
Educational
Get to know the ingredients and preparation of the traditional hangi, including the process of raising it from the hangi pit (earth cooked oven). Also, explore the Ta Moko (tattoo) and its significance, as well as other traditional Maori customs: Witness firsthand the art of carving. Marvel at the poi dance and the various musical instruments. Get up close and personal with the flora and fauna the Maori use for medicine. And of course, discover the sacred freshwater spring and the fancy glow worms.
Dining
Dig in with a sumptuous selection of tender New Zealand meat and poultry. Experience an authentic hangi dinner complete with tasty, healthy salads and vegetables. Also, let’s not forget that sweet tooth – there is also a good range of desserts on offer. All of these you will enjoy buffet style, so you can have as much as you want. Plus, the full bar facilities lets you enjoy a few drinks.
