Day 1Arrive Christchurch(D)

On arrival into Christchurch you will be met by a Grand Pacific Tours representative and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2Christchurch - Arthurs Pass - Franz Josef(B,D)

This morning board the TranzAlpine, renowned as one of the great train journeys of the world. Travel over massive viaducts, river valleys and spectacular gorges as you ascend to Arthur’s Pass located in the centre of the Southern Alps. Board your coach and travel to Hokitika, famous for its Greenstone before continuing to Franz Josef where time is available to experience a scenic flight (optional, weather permitting) over the spectacular glaciers.

Day 3Franz Josef - Queenstown(B,D)

See the snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps as you travel south along the West Coast to the township of Fox Glacier. Continue via the Haast Pass, an area of stunning beauty before arriving into picturesque Queenstown, a year-round resort situated on the shores of magical Lake Wakatipu.

Day 4Queenstown - Free Day(B)

Today is a free day. There are plenty of sightseeing options and your Coach Captain and Tour Leader are available to assist. This evening is also at leisure, you may choose to dine high above Queenstown at the Skyline Restaurant (optional) or board the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw and cruise across Lake Wakatipu for a gourmet barbecue at the Colonel’s Homestead, Walter Peak Station (optional).

Day 5Queenstown to Auckland(B,D)

Travel to Queenstown Airport where you will board a local flight to the ‘City of Sails’, Auckland, located in the North Island. Meet your North Island Coach Captain and enjoy a city tour. This afternoon includes a visit to Sky Tower at leisure, one of New Zealand’s most spectacular attractions.

Day 6Auckland - Hokianga - Bay of Islands(B,D)

Depart Auckland and travel to Matakohe to enjoy an informative talk at the Kauri Museum. After lunch travel to Hokianga, home to some of the largest remaining kauri trees in the world. Join the unforgettable Footprints Waipoua Forest Tour, where a local guide will explain how these trees are intertwined with the lives of the local Mãori and the important role played in the ecosystem that is the Waipoua Forest. Continue to Paihia, situated in the heart of the beautiful Bay of Islands.

Today is free to choose from the many optional activities available. You may like to take a coach trip to Cape Reinga via Ninety Mile Beach, the Hole in the Rock Cruise, or a spectacular scenic flight. The choice is yours and your Coach Captain and Tour Leader will be available to assist.

Day 8Bay of Islands - Auckland(B)

This morning join a guided tour of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, the location of the signing of the treaty between the Mãori tribes and the British. Farewell the Bay of Islands and drive south via Whangarei and Warkworth to Matakana to visit Sculptureum, an art experience that is internationally unique. Enjoy time to wander through the Garden of Creative Diversity and to view the hundreds of displayed works in the galleries and garden all designed to amuse and inspire. Return to Auckland where this evening is free to dine at leisure.

Day 9Auckland - Rotorua(B,L,D)

Travel to Waikato’s most visited attraction, the Hamilton Gardens. Your guide will share the story of how the gardens were transformed into a Garden of International Significance. Visit Hobbiton for lunch followed by an experience of the real Middle-earth with a visit to the Hobbiton Movie Set. A guide will recount the fascinating details of how the set was created. Continue to the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua.

Today begins with a Gondola ride to the Stratosfare Restaurant where a buffet breakfast and spectacular views are on offer. There is also time for a luge ride! Travel to Te Puia for a tour of the boiling mud pools and awesome Geysers that Rotorua is famous for. Enjoy some free time this afternoon before travelling to a Mãori village for an interactive and educational experience which culminates with a cultural performance and traditional hãngi feast.

  • 151 or more days prior to departure, 50% of the deposit is refundable. Cost of airline ticket if issued is non refundable.
  • Between 91 and 150 days days prior to departure, loss of deposit plus the cost of the airline ticket if issued.
  • Between 71 and 90 days prior to departure, 25% of the tour package price.
  • Between 31 and 70 days prior to departure, 50% of the tour package price.
  • Less than 30 days prior to departure, 100% of the tour package price.

If a traveller wishes to cancel their existing booking and transfer to a new departure date, the above cancellation fees still apply.
