Cathedral Cove Classic Kayak Tour

The Cathedral Cove Classic Kayak Tour is a three-hour guided adventure from Hahei Beach through Te Whanganui-o-Hei Marine Reserve. Paddle among islands, sea caves, secluded bays and volcanic rock gardens before landing at Cathedral Cove for cappuccinos, hot chocolate and cookies. Small groups, modern equipment and full instruction make the experience suitable for beginners, experienced paddlers and families. Minimum age: 5 years.

Paddle Through Te Whanganui-o-Hei Marine Reserve

Launch from Hahei Beach and explore one of the Coromandel Peninsula’s most beautiful stretches of coastline from the low, open perspective of a sea kayak. Depending on sea and weather conditions, the route can weave past offshore islands, sheltered bays, sculpted sea caves and rock gardens where marine life may be visible in the clear water. Local guides share stories about the area’s Māori heritage, geology and natural environment while helping the group paddle at a relaxed pace.

A highlight is the landing at Mautohe Cathedral Cove, where the natural rock arch and beach create a memorable setting for a refreshment break. Cappuccinos, hot chocolates and cookies are served on the sand before the return journey to Hahei, and favourable winds may provide an opportunity for kayak sailing. Double kayaks, safety equipment, instruction and dry bags are supplied, so no previous kayaking experience is required.
