Franz Josef Glacier Up Close – Scenic Flight & Glacier Time

This Franz Josef Glacier Encounter takes you high above the wild West Coast and deep into glacier country on an unforgettable aerial journey. Your experience begins with a helicopter flight from Franz Josef village, flying over lush rainforest, coastal views and the dramatic peaks of the Southern Alps. You'll pass historical alpine huts before touching down on the glacier icefall at around 1300 metres.

Once landed, you'll step out onto ancient ice for a 15-minute guided experience, with plenty of time to take in the landscape and capture some incredible photos. Your expert guide will share stories of Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere and the glacier's ever-changing form. With exclusive landing access, this is one of the few ways you can truly connect with this powerful natural environment.
