7:30 AM - Depart Franz Josef - Start your adventure by leaving the charming Franz Josef township, journeying towards Christchurch, known as the Garden City
Hokitika Gorge - Prepare to be amazed by the natural wonder of Hokitika Gorge. Its stunning turquoise waters, surrounded by lush native bush, create a truly magical setting. This hidden gem is a favourite for nature lovers and photographers, offering unforgettable views and an atmosphere that feels almost otherworldly.
Explore Hokitika - Arriving in Hokitika, you’ll experience its relaxed, nostalgic charm. We’ll take a break for lunch and a leisurely stroll along the wild beach, where the black sands meet the rugged coastline. Our guides ensure you have plenty of time to explore this “cool little town” before we continue on to Greymouth for your train connection.
Greymouth & TranzAlpine Boarding - Situated on New Zealand’s South Island, Greymouth is the largest town on the West Coast, with a population of around 14,000. Known for its dramatic cliffs, wild beaches, and the peaceful Grey Valley, Greymouth is a picturesque stop in its own right. It also serves as the gateway for your journey on the famous TranzAlpine train, heading across to Christchurch.
