Overview
With at least some riding experience from riding extensively in the past or recently becoming acquainted with the sport, you will want more than a two hour trek can offer. This is when a Half Day Horse Trek will prove ideal.
Are you struggling to find a riding experience that offers more than just a regular Two Hour Horse ride?
Ridden before, and feel you are up to more?
It’s time to slip into the saddle for a half Day Horse Trek. This trek will take you on a 3 to 4 hour adventure with more demanding trails than our shorter rides. As you ride, you can take in such sights as the foothills of Pukeokahu – also known as Hill of the Hawk.
This ride also allows you the chance to get some great views of Mt Ruapehu and the northern Ruahine ranges. You will have time to stop and take in the exceptional views that overlook the Rangitikei River canyon.
The Trouble is, the whole idea of an organised horse trek
Some might be concerned about signing up for an organised horse trek. They are inclined to believe that they will be grouped with people who have little to no riding skills. The thought of going no faster than a walk really does not get you excited at all.
You want to ride at a fairly quick pace, enjoy some opportunities to move at a faster gait than a trot and see some exceptional scenery while you’re at it. In addition, if you mastered riding in a certain style like English, you wouldn’t want to be forced into using a Western saddle or vice versa.
Another concern you may have is the quality of the horse you will be riding. The quality of your horse can, after all, really make or break your experience.
Reasonable Requests are they not?
So, do you feel that your requests are in any way unreasonable? You wish to move quickly, enjoy pleasant scenery on a good horse with the right saddle and without being held back by beginners.
Absolutely Not!
The group will be kept to a small size with a maximum of 8 riders. Everyone on this trek needs to have previous riding experience that extends beyond the casual pony ride on the beach. With experienced riders only, you can be sure that the ride will move along quickly.
Our guides take very special care when pairing horses up with their riders and we have a good variety of horses to suit all types of riders. This, along with the right saddle will ensure an enjoyable ride. We have English, Western and Australian stock saddle styles available.
And the scenery........ goes without saying doesn't it?
Now, the only question you need to ask yourself is whether half a day will be enough or if you should choose a full day trek instead!
What about the Weather?
If you are concerned about the weather on the day, don’t worry. We are prepared to fully refund your payment if we believe the weather to be unsafe or unpleasant for riding.
All riding equipment will be supplied including helmets, boots, chaps and long oil skin riding coats. Snacks and refreshments are also provided.
