Overview

Visit the world-renowned and enchanting Hobbiton Movie Set made famous by the Lord of the Rings films, as well as the geothermal marvels of Rotorua like the geothermal park at Te Puia and the Maori cultural village on a Hobbiton & Rotorua Tour including Te Puia. Our comfortable 12-seater mini-bus will pick you up from your accommodation, then drive you on a fully guided journey to Hobbiton through the bucolic Waikato countryside (regarded as the world’s most extensively farmed region). As you make your way south, take in the scenery as it unfolds, capture wonderful photos, admire breathtaking mountain views, and encounter an assortment of animals the area is famous for.

Following our drive, we arrive at the sheep farm of the Alexander family where the Hobbiton entrance, the Shire’s Rest, is also located. Marvel at the thousands of sheep this working farm keeps, refresh with ice cream, or energise yourself with a cup of coffee or a bite to eat while we pick up your movie set tickets.
Step into a big green Hobbiton bus that will take you to the set for a two-hour fully guided tour, with a professional Hobbiton guide showing you around this incredible 12-acre filming site. During your time here, set foot into the Shire’s lush pastures, admire the 44 beautifully crafted Hobbit holes, visit the fantastic gardens, be amazed at the secrets and stories behind the making of the movies, and cap it all off with a cold drink at the iconic Hobbiton pub, the Green Dragon Inn.

At the end of your Lord of the Rings experience, make your way back through the sheep farm of the Alexander family with a guide leading your way. Rotorua’s active geothermal area comes next, and on your journey south, enjoy other points of interest along the way like the scenic Fitzgerald Glade and the intriguing town of Tirau, self-billed as the world capital of corrugated iron sculpture.

Arriving in Rotorua, we will show you around its many popular and historical sites like the Government Gardens, the thermal springs, the Blues Bath, the Polynesian Spa, and the beautiful Lake Rotorua. Continue on to the celebrated New Zealand attraction, Te Puia Geothermal Park, where, once inside, we take a break for lunch. We highly recommend the traditional Maori hangi meal as worth a try.

Following lunch, we leave for a fully guided tour of the park’s geothermal and cultural wonders. Gaze up at the Pohutu Geyser, take a peek into geothermal vents and craters, visit the Maori craft school, admire Maori architecture, and drop by at the kiwi viewing house for a chance to see a kiwi bird.

You may even decide to include the Maori Cultural show as an optional extra to experience a traditional welcome, and to watch a concert performance and the powerful ‘haka.’

Enjoy discounted souvenir shopping in town where our guide will take you to, then make the fully guided journey back north to Auckland to conclude the tour.
