Overview

Leaving Te Anau where your Kepler Track Luxmore Guided Day Heli-Hike starts, board a scenic helicopter flight that takes you above the Hidden lakes, alpine area and beech forest, and lands you at the Department of Conservation’s Luxmore Hut on the Kepler Track. The hut sits high above the bush line in the middle of alpine tussock fields and looks out to the surrounding Fiordland National Park mountains, putting you within a half day’s trip from the summit of Mt. Luxmore if you are so inclined. Descend via the well-maintained Kepler Track after enjoying time in New Zealand's Southern Alps.

The track slopes down and passes through mountain and silver beech forest, winding beneath soaring limestone bluffs on its way to the sandy beach and clear waters of Brod Bay where you will board the water taxi for the well-deserved trip back to Te Anau.

You need to have a medium level of fitness to undertake the downhill, 8-kilometre walk from Luxmore Hut. An additional 1-3 hours of up and down walking is also required to explore further past the hut on your way to the summit. No more than 12 walkers are accompanied by a nature guide who will share insight into the natural and human heritage of Fiordland. Enjoy the many stops along the way to take photographs, read the interpretive panels and spy the birds.
