Journey on the Milford Road from Te Anau, on your way to Lower Hollyford Valley where your Lake Marian Guided Walk starts.
An easy walk alongside a series of waterfalls signals the start of the hike, which gives way to a steeper walk on rocky ground as the track climbs through a dense woodland of ribbon wood, fuchsia and beech trees. Only 6 walkers make up a group led by a Trips and Tramps guide, making it easier for everyone to better understand the rich human and natural heritage of the Fiordland. There are plenty of stops along the way to take pictures, spy on birds, and soak up the scenery. The group may pause for a wilderness tea break, otherwise the guide carries energy snacks and hot drinks. Lake Marian appears after a 2-3 hour walk.
Located in a hanging valley enclosed by imposing, snow-clad mountains, Lake Marian is a stunning alpine lake, an inspiring natural alpine amphitheatre perfect for leisurely picnic lunches (weather-permitting).
Wrapping up, you go back down the track on your way to Hollyford Road and return trip to Te Anau by coach.
