The Lord of the Rings Edoras Tour is a full-day 4WD adventure from Christchurch to Mt Sunday, the spectacular filming location for Rohan’s capital. Journey from Christchurch to the Real Edoras

Travel across the Canterbury Plains before entering the remote high-country landscapes surrounding Mt Potts Station. A 4WD journey through rugged terrain and streams leads towards Mt Sunday, the natural landmark transformed into Edoras for The Lord of the Rings films. Although the film set was removed after production, the sweeping valleys, rivers and mountain backdrop remain instantly recognisable.

Follow your guide on the walk to Mt Sunday’s summit for panoramic views across the landscape that portrayed Rohan. 8:45 AM – Meet-up at Canterbury Museum (COCA, 66 Gloucester Street)
Arrive at the designated meeting point outside Canterbury Museum. Meet your guide, check in, and prepare for your epic adventure to Edoras.

9:00 AM – Departure from Christchurch
Set off from Christchurch on a comfortable and scenic drive toward Mt Potts High Country Station. Your guide will provide fascinating commentary about New Zealand’s landscapes, local history, and the role this region played in The Lord of the Rings.

10:45 AM – Pick-Up in Methven
For guests joining from Methven, the tour makes a convenient stop for pick-up. From here, the journey continues toward the stunning high country.

11:30 AM – Arrival at Mt Potts High Country Station
Reach the breathtaking Mt Potts Station, home of Mt Sunday, the filming location of Edoras. Marvel at the unspoiled beauty of the surrounding lakes, rivers, and mountain vistas.

11:45 AM – Guided Walk to the Summit of Edoras
