The standard Methven Heliski day in New Zealand's Arrowsmiths is anything but ordinary... The "Perfect" heli ski package includes 5 runs, averaging 750-1,000 vertical metre drops.
We have exclusive access to our amazing territory in the Arrowsmith and Ragged Ranges. Our focus is on safety, great service, and small group sizes.

- Over 250 named runs
- Heliski terrain for intermediate thru expert skiers and riders
- “In your face” views along the Southern Alps to Mount Cook
- View the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea (both coasts of NZ's South Island) from the top of at least 2 runs

When is the best time to Heliski at Methven?
Methven Heliski operates daily from 01 July through to 30 September (weather permitting).
The weather becomes colder with a more powder days from July to the middle of August. You can expect to enjoy spring weatehr and corn snow after the middle of August.
Ability Required – Can I Heliski?
Methven Heliskiing is suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers and riders, or those with previous off-piste experience. We have 4 roughly defined 'ability' levels. A good level of fitness, confidence, and a "go for it" attitude are all important.
Where do you fit in?
Level 1 Heliskier
- Confident in riding or skiing Blue Runs at ski areas
- Possibly has no past experience with heliskiing
- Possibly has no past experience with powder snow
Level 2 Heliskier
- Confident in riding or skiing Black Runs at ski areas
- Has some past experience with heliskiing in intermediate terrain
- Possibly has no past experience with powder snow
Level 3 Heliskier
- May not have heliskiing experience
- Able to ride or ski Double Black runs at ski areas in powder snowboarder
- Experienced heliskiers will ride or ski between 5 and 10 (800 metre) runs per day
Level 4 Heliskier
- Able to ride or ski any terrain
- Highly experienced in heliskiing. Usually rides 10 or more (1,000 metre) runs per day
- Can ride/ski any terrain
What do I need to bring?
Your own ski or board equipment. Alpine skis, telemark skis, or snowboards are all welcome. Ride on whatever you are most comfortable with. Rental equipment can be hired in Methven.
- Warm clothing - a windproof jacket and pants, warm gloves
- Goggles or sunglasses and sunscreen
- Don’t forget your camera. This will be an experience to remember

If you are reasonably fit and confident in your skiing or snowboarding skills, then you too can enjoy the thrills that this experience has to offer along with the challenge of taking on those big mountains!
What to Bring
- Ski goggles or quality sunglasses as well as ample sunscreen
- A small backpack for carrying water, sunscreen and an extra pair of gloves.
- Don't forget your camera to capture these amzing moments.
- For the most part, we recommend that you use fat skis. You can hire fat skis as well as boots and poles from us.
Bringing your own gear
- Skilled skiers with off-piste experience may bring their own equipment, downhill, telemark or AT skis. If you will be renting, ensure that you skis are properly waxed.

- 15:00 First helicopter loads return to Glenfalloch
- 16:00 Return to Methven
- 17:00 Dropped off back at your accommodation
