On this full-day sightseeing tour that will take you from the adventure capital of Queenstown to the Garden City of Christchurch, get a chance to stand before the “cloud piercer,” New Zealand’s highest mountain, Aoraki/Mount Cook.
Make your way into the Mackenzie basin on a luxury air-conditioned coach from Queenstown on a Mt Cook Day Tour Queenstown to Christchurch. Travel through stunning rough-edged landscape and over the Lindis Pass before arriving at the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, home of New Zealand’s highest peak. Maori legend tells the story of a boy named Aoraki and his brothers who got stuck on a reef. They climbed the higher side of the wreckage and sat there, but were frozen by the cold south wind, turning them into what has become one of the most spectacular landscapes in New Zealand, the Southern Alps. You will get to see this remarkable mountain range in all their glory on this tour.
A lunch stop at Mount Cook Village offers an opportunity to enjoy a hearty lunch (optional extra) at the renowned Hermitage Hotel. There’s also a chance to see the panoramic spread of this fantastic region aboard a scenic helicopter or ski plane flight. If the weather permits, you can arrange this flight at an additional cost with your driver guide on the day of the tour.
After your satisfying lunch stop, travel east to Lake Tekapo via Lake Pukaki and see the picturesque Church of the Good Shepherd standing alone against the shores of the brilliant blue glacier-fed lake. Continue northwards amidst the patchwork of farmlands of the Canterbury Plains to the Garden City of Christchurch where your tour ends.
