Marvel at the grandeur of the Southern Alps on this sightseeing day tour to Mount Cook departing from Christchurch, the Garden City of New Zealand.
Travel through the farmlands patchwork of Canterbury Plains to the shores of the vivid blue glacier-fed Lake Tekapo. Here, you can view the solitary Church of the Good Shepherd with it's bronze sheepdog statue that commemorates James Mackenzie and his collie "Friday" that first discovered the region in 1855. Enjoy the sights of the beautifully rugged Southern Alps. We travel towards the UNESCO World Heritage site of New Zealand’s highest mountain, Aoraki/Mount Cook or the “cloud piercer” standing at a height of 3,724m above sea level. You will get to see this remarkable mountain range on this Christchurch to Queenstown Mt Cook Day Tour.
You will stop for a hearty lunch (optional extra) at the renowned Hermitage Hotel at the Mount Cook Village. You can also get on board a scenic helicopter or ski plane flight to see the panoramic spread of this fantastic region. If the weather permits, you can arrange this flight at an additional cost with your driver guide.
Your journey continues southwards and you will travel through Lake Pukaki and past the tawny tussock fields of the Mackenzie Basin. Make an afternoon tea stop (own expense) in the picturesque town of Omarama. If time allows, you will visit the Jones Family Orchard near Cromwell before your evening arrival in the enchanting Queenstown, where your tour ends.
