Travel approximately 30 minutes from Rotorua, followed by an 8.2-kilometre journey along a bumpy 4WD track to the start of the walk. A composting toilet and walking poles are available at base camp.

The guided hike includes regular rest stops and a choice of routes. The summit track requires moderate fitness and crosses loose volcanic scoria, with two short sections where you may need to use both hands and feet for stability. Your guide will help you choose the most suitable option.
