There are few genuine mail boats left in service today as iconic as the Pelorus Mail Boat Run from Havelock in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. It’s one of those last mail boats that have been doing the same run for decades, offering a rare glimpse into the good old days.
Leaving the quaint township of Havelock, the boat brings parcels, mail and passengers in various areas of the scenic Pelorus Sound. Havelock sits about halfway between Nelson and Picton, or a third of the way between Nelson and Blenheim. Each day, the boat cruises around the various jetties and inlets, bringing passengers to the Marlborough Sounds’ awe-inspiring scenery and fascinating wildlife.
Learn more about the rich history of the Sounds as well as its residents through an informative commentary provided on the boat during each of the three mail runs. If the weather conditions are right, the boat takes the passengers on a full Greenshell Mussel Tour!
Enthusiastic crew and family owned; you can’t help but enjoy this relaxing and personal experience in the spectacular Marlborough Sounds.
Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits are available all day.
