Overview

On this private Jet Boat Thrills and Seafood Lunch in Marlborough tour, a fun-filled day in New Zealand can be tailored for you to include an exhilarating jet boat ride, a Marlborough wine experience, and a lunch consisting of seafood or a menu better suited to your tastes. On your journey, soak up the stunning landscapes as you mix and match your afternoon options.

A popular stop to sample celebrated Marlborough wines starts the day and sets the pace for your short drive through Havelock where a stunning jet boat awaits. Boaters launch from the Havelock Township and Marina to get to the Pelorus Sound where mussel and salmon-farming is one of its most popular industries. Also located here is a large seafood company.

Before lunch, an exciting jet boat ride awaits. Popular among passengers are 360° spins that your captain, an experienced ‘boatie,’ can manoeuvre given his extensive experience and knowledge of the area. Slowly emerging from the shelter of the Havelock Harbour, you will soon experience the thrills in the more open area of the Sound, then relax and soak up the scenery as the boat leisurely jaunts through the estuary of the Pelorus River. Listen as your captain shares a commentary during the trip to learn more about the history of the area.  As the main shipping route linking the area to and from the Havelock region, the crystal clear waters of the Pelorus River serves as a corridor to move timber and merchandise.

Historical sites, including old routes for shipping timber, and river history and relics, will be pointed out during this spectacular trip. The natural wetlands that you will encounter not only provide habitat to a wide range of native and migratory birds but also contain historic Maori sites. After a 1.5 hour ride, you will be safely returned to Havelock where you can enjoy a seafood lunch. (You will find other tempting flavours on the menu if you’d rather skip seafood.) With a matching wine in hand, savour the Marlborough flavours and soak up the views while seated overlooking the Marina. Watch boats and fishing vessels come and go from the big glass windows or from the deck as you enjoy a nice sea breeze.

After lunch, you may want to consider the following mix and match options: continuing on to Pelorus Bridge about 30km northwest for a short walk to take in a view of the swiftly flowing Pelorus River, part of the filming location for the Hobbits’ many adventures. The Pelorus River started to take form more than 150,000 years ago from both glacial erosion and earthquake activities. There’s also a chance to peek into a gallery of a local artist or a wood craftsman for a viewing of his sculptures and a meeting with their pet sheep. At the same location, you will also see handmade felting and may choose to have a go at it. Other options that await include award-winning gardens and a charming Old English Pub to sit in and relax with a cold glass of the proprietor’s beer or wine. Finally, round out your tour with a ‘must-stop’ visit at the Makana Chocolate Boutique Confections.
