Spend some time at Mount Cook before ringing in the New Year in Queenstown with a fabulous fireworks display from the TSS “Earnslaw”. Enjoy an overnight cruise on the ultimate Milford Sound sightseeing vessel, the “Milford Mariner”. Nestled in a cosy cove, we virtually have the sound all to ourselves.

Day 1Auckland - Christchurch - Mt Cook

Your included flight departs Auckland mid-morning. We depart Christchurch in time for a private lunch at the beautiful historical Akaunui homestead with our great mates Di and Ian Mackenzie. After lunch sweeping vistas of Burkes Pass and the Mackenzie Country open up ahead. The small church on the edge of aquamarine Lake Tekapo and a statue celebrating the high country sheep dog make irresistible photo stops. 

We continue on past Lake Pukaki before taking the road alongside the lake to Aoraki/Mt Cook. We enjoy a special dinner this evening in the The Hermitage’s Panorama Room where Aoraki/Mt Cook dominates the view.

Day 2Mt Cook - Queenstown

We wake at the foot of Mt Cook, at 3,754 metres New Zealand's highest mountain and known in Maori as Aoraki "the cloud piercer". We head down the mountain rimmed Mackenzie Basin and over the golden grass of the Lindis Pass and through the Kawarau Gorge.

We continue alongside the gorge to Queenstown. Your hotel is a located a short walk from the centre of this alpine resort. This evening we cruise out on Lake Wakatipu on the vintage steamer TSS Earnslaw to dine at Walter Peak Station and celebrate the New Year back in Queenstown.

Day 3Queenstown

Our first destination is the leafy village of Arrowtown where gold mining history comes alive beside the Arrow River. Take a stroll along the main street and beside the river or browse the shops to enjoy the charms of this historic town.

We return to Queenstown and ride the Skyline Gondola to the top of Bob’s Peak for lunch with a scenic overview of this picturesque resort. It’s a beautiful drive alongside Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy and Paradise. Further around the lake we reach historic Kinloch Lodge where we stop for dinner before returning to Queenstown.

Day 4Queenstown - Milford Mariner Overnight Cruise

We leave this resort town for the peace and tranquility of an evening on the world famous Milford Sound. We lunch in Te Anau before driving the dramatic road to Milford Sound in the heart of Fiordland National Park where we board the “Milford Mariner”.

Cruise by Mitre Peak and out to the Tasman Sea as your nature guide points out waterfalls and sea birds. Where the sound reaches the Tasman Sea seal colonies lounge on the rocks. Moored in a sheltered cove this evening we dine on board – the sound is virtually ours alone.

Day 5Milford Sound - Te Anau

We wake up in magnificent Milford Sound and breakfast on the “Milford Mariner” then return down the Milford Road and through the Homer Tunnel to Te Anau. The Milford Road is a panorama of high mountains and deep valleys studded with glaciers, waterfalls and mirror lakes.

This afternoon we cruise across to the shores of Lake Te Anau to visit the glowworm caves floating in a small boat into a peaceful grotto away from the roar of an underground waterfall. Returning to Te Anau there’s time to stroll the waterfront before we dine in your lakeside hotel this evening.

Day 6Te Anau - Queenstown - Auckland

We depart Te Anau for Dunrobin Homestead at Mossburn for our farewell lunch hosted by Aileen and Ian Grant. First Ian steps on board our coach to take us on a tour of this sheep and deer farm which was once part of a large hill country station.

Catch up on last minute shopping for New Zealand classics such as merino clothing in the boutique stores at Queenstown airport.

Pricing: Single share price is base on one person in a single room. Twin share price is based on 2 people sharing one room.

  • Please note, payments made by credit card will incur an additional merchant fee of 2%.

Cancellations and amendments

Cancellation fees depend on when we receive notice of your cancellation:

  • The 20% deposit is not refundable and not transferable.
  • Bookings cancelled between 59 days and 45 days incur 50% of tour cost.
  • Bookings cancelled between 44 days and 31 days incur 75% of tour cost.
  • Bookings cancelled within 30 days or less of tour departure incur 100% of tour cost.
  • No refunds will be made after travel has commenced.
