Overview
Explore the first track that Bike Taupo built, linking you to all the track systems by providing you access between Taupo and Huka Falls and then into Craters MTB Park. Start your New Zealand Rotary Trail & Huka Falls Bike Tour ride from the Spa Park car park located at the end of County Avenue (on your right, you’ll find a pump track off County Avenue). The Rotary Ride meanders through a trail which branches off in a number of places to a one-way single track.
Take a break at the Huka Falls lookout during your ride to marvel at its immense power and capture New Zealand’s most photographed natural attraction. You can then continue down to Aratiatia Dam to witness the opening of the dam gates at the following times: 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm in summer, and 10am, 12pm and 2pm in winter. Time your ride during these hours to marvel at the raw power of the Waikato River.
With the track signposted by Bike Taupo, the ride back from the dam affords an unparalleled experience. On the way, you’ll pedal past the Wairakei geothermal power station, then through the back of Wairakei Resort alongside a delightful green thermal stream. Cycle on past the Volcanic Centre until you arrive at the Hub Café. From here, you have a choice whether to return to Spa Park using the same route you took when you came, or arrange for us to transport you from Huka Falls back to Spa Park.
