Explore some of the top attractions in Rotorua that make this city such a popular tourist destination. The local Maori culture, geothermal activity and strong rural influence are what makes this part of New Zealand so unique and this tour will allow you to explore three of the area's top attractions during a morning sightseeing tour of Rotorua.
Learn all about New Zealand's Maori culture at Te Puia. You will receive a traditional welcome and be entertained by a cultural performance. Hereafter, you will be taken on a tour of the Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley where you will see various forms of geothermal activity. Such features include bubbling mud pools and active geysers that shoot steam high up into the air. The Te Puia woodcarving and weaving schools are also quite fascinating. See how the older, more experienced artists teach their apprentices all about these important traditional practices.
Next up is a trip to the Rainbow Springs Nature Park where you will be able to enjoy a close look at the various native flora and fauna. Such include the famous flightless bird, the Kiwi, which is native to New Zealand. Stroll through the native forest and view various New Zealand birds, fish and even lizards. Keep you eyes open for the ancient tuatara and various exotic animals from all around the world too.
After your walk through the forest, you will be taken to visit the Agrodome. Take a tour of this working organic farm on an all-terrain vehicle and see various farm animals like sheep, deer, cattle, alpacas and llamas, pigs and ostriches. You will also be able to see a sheep shearing display and watch some furry four-legged farm workers demonstrate their skills at the local sheep dog trials.
