Overview

Cruise north on a Ship Cove Cruise from Picton to the historical Ship Cove through the Queen Charlotte Sound in Marlborough, New Zealand. Learn more about the history, the surrounding and the teeming wildlife of mammal, bird or fish as your skipper provides informative commentary along the way.

Stopping for 30 minutes at Ship Cove is the high point of this tour. Captain James Cook named this area Ship Cove when his ship, The Endeavour, anchored here on January 15, 1770 to refresh his provisions of water, food and wood. Between 1770 and 1777, Ship Cove would become Captain Cook’s favourite anchorage, returning to this area four more times.

Enjoy the moment to splash in the creek where the famed captain made his crew some home brew. Wander on the beach and get the chance to meet its resident wildlife, or simply laze around and soak up the stillness. Don’t forget to capture this moment with a photo beside the Captain Cook memorial marking his historic stopovers to this area.

Climbing back aboard your vessel, weave your way through Endeavour Inlet to view Punga Cove Resort and Furneaux Lodge before making your way back to Picton.
