On your Stevensons Island Cruise & Nature Walk enjoy a relaxing 40 minute cruise out to Stevensons Peninsula and then into Stevensons Arm where the Mt. Burke high country sheep station is located. Looming above the eastern skyline is Mt. Gould (1304m) and Mt. Burke (1417m), forming a majestic backdrop for the high country’s rolling green pasture.
Listen to our knowledgeable crew as they share with you the surrounding area’s biology, history and points of interest along the way.
As you cruise up Stevensons Arm on board Dual Image on your way to Stevensons Island, kick back in comfort before landing on a beach. With our guide leading the way, disembark via our front loading ramp and land ashore for a short trek to the summit of the island where incredible photo opportunities await
This 65-hectare island has been designated as a Department of Conservation reserve where many species of birds not sighted elsewhere in New Zealand inhabit. Some of the feathered residents you will meet here are rifleman, South Island tomtits, native wood pigeons, grey warblers and brown creepers.
The island is dotted with eccentrically bent trees and rocks shaped by eons of winds that blow down the arm, creating a dramatic backdrop for keen photographers. Cap off your experience with afternoon tea and another 40-minute cruise back to the lakefront of Wanaka.
