Launched in 1912, the TSS Earnslaw was originally commissioned by New Zealand Railways to carry passengers, livestock, mail and supplies between communities around Lake Whakatipu. At 48 metres long, she was the largest vessel operating on the lake and became an important connection for remote high-country stations.
Known as the “Lady of the Lake”, the TSS Earnslaw has been carefully restored while retaining much of her original character. Today, visitors can explore the decks, watch the hand-fired steam engines operating and discover stories from more than a century of Queenstown history.
