Waikato & Bay of Plenty Scenic E-Bike Tour

After a morning transfer from Auckland (approx. 1.5 hrs), begin your cycling adventure on the Te Awa River Ride. This wide, sealed pathway follows the Waikato River from Ngāruawāhia to Hamilton. Highlights include the striking Perry Bridge suspension crossing, riverside parks, and easy boardwalks through native bush. The ride is flat to gently rolling, perfect for warming up.

Overnight: Hamilton

Continue along the Te Awa River Ride, cycling south through Hamilton Gardens before following the river past farmland and quiet bush. Stop at riverside cafés or picnic along the way. The route finishes at Lake Karapiro, where rowers and kayakers often train against a scenic backdrop.
Overnight in Cambridge

Transfer from Cambridge to the coastal town of Thames (approx. 1.5 hrs) to begin your Hauraki Rail Trail experience. Ride across open plains, farmland, and small settlements, with the Coromandel Ranges rising in the background. The day is relaxed and mainly flat, giving plenty of time for photo stops or a café break.
Overnight in Thames or Paeroa

Today’s highlight is the Karangahake Gorge, one of New Zealand’s most memorable cycleways. Ride through a lush bush-clad canyon, cross swing bridges, and pass historic gold-mining relics. A one-kilometre rail tunnel (lit but atmospheric) is a standout feature. Optional short walks include the Windows Walk and Owharoa Falls. The ride ends in Waihi, a historic gold town.
Overnight in Waihi

Transfer to Omokoroa in the Bay of Plenty (approx. 1 hr). Ride the coastal boardwalks and sealed trails that link Omokoroa with Tauranga Harbour, finishing at one of the North Island’s most beautiful beaches. This relaxed Grade 1–2 ride is the perfect finale, offering sweeping sea views and wetland habitats along the way. After the ride, enjoy a late lunch before transferring back to Auckland (approx. 2.5 hrs).
