Enjoy a day tour from Rotorua to another top North Island attraction, the enchanted world of the Waitomo Caves with its spectacular rock formations and twinkling glowworms.
Discover the stunning scenery both above and below ground on this sightseeing day tour from Rotorua to the amazing Waitomo Glowworm Caves.
As you leave Rotorua in the morning, you will travel through abundant farmlands while your driver guide entertains you with various interesting stories about the area and points out several sights. Take note as you approach Fitzgerald Glad, where the trees have grown to form an arch above and a natural green tunnel.
When you arrive in the small town of Waitomo, in the King Country, you will be taken on a 45-minute guided tour through the famous underground wonderland of the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. These caves were initially discovered back in 1887 and today they are one of the top attractions in New Zealand. Take a look at the massive caverns, stalactites, stalagmites and find out how these and other limestone formations were formed over millions of years. Your tour will be concluded with a gentle boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto. This is often the biggest highlight for visitors since your way is magically illuminated by thousands of tiny glowworms.
Once your Waitomo Caves tour comes to an end, we will return along the same route back to Rotorua and ensure arrival during the early part of the afternoon. As an optional extra, you may book a picnic lunch and enjoy it on board as we return to Rotorua. The tour will be concluded upon arrival in the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua.
