Come on board and join us on our Wanaka Water Taxi Mou Waho Island Tour, our favourite location on Lake Wanaka in New Zealand where the fascinating island within a lake, on an island within a bigger lake, on a bigger island in the sea can be found!
As a protected nature reserve, Mou Waho Island is home to the flightless and inquisitive Weka as well as a population of other indigenous New Zealand birds. It only takes a short hike to get to the top of the island where sweeping views of the Arethusa Pool (at an elevation higher than the surrounding Lake Wanaka), Lake Wanaka, and its neighbouring peaks await.
Leaving Wanaka Marina two times a day, our water taxi travels 15km up Lake Wanaka, cruising past Mou Tapu Island & the towering cliff of fisherman’s cove to the island of Mou Waho.
As you speed along the lake's glistening waters, your knowledgeable and friendly skipper will share with you the intriguing geology of the alps as well as the glaciers that gouged out the lake.
Spend one and a half hours on the island before returning to shore. You may also decide to make the trip in the morning and enjoy the day to suit your desires before joining the afternoon taxi on the way back.
