Overview

From Ahuriri in Napier, this Water Trail South and Taradale Self Guided bike tour of many of the Hawkes Bay region’s highlights to Taradale – coastline, vineyards, orchards and Ahuriri Estuary – all in one day!

Pedal around the port village of Ahuriri to Napier CBD, celebrated for its Art Deco architecture. Admire the distinctive facades of Napier’s buildings before moving on south, following Marine Parade and enjoying spectacular views across the sea to Cape Kidnappers.

After cycling for about 12 kilometres, you head inland at Awatoto for the suburb of Taradale, keeping to the trail along the Tutaekuri River stopbank. Take in the unfolding countryside scenery typical of the Hawke’s Bay region – vineyards, orchard and market gardens – sharing the trail with wandering cows.
Arriving at Taradale, you can decide whether to visit the history-rich Otatara Maori Pa site, the Silky Oaks Chocolate Factory, and the acclaimed wineries of Church Road and Mission Estate, the oldest winery in New Zealand.

Cycling around the Ahuriri Estuary Wildlife Reserve rounds out your ride, capping off a diverse day filled with fun, and sampling the finest the region is famous for.
