Discover Golden Beaches and Coastal Trails in One Day

Abel Tasman National Park Day Walks are the perfect way to experience the park’s golden beaches, emerald forests, and coastal serenity—no multi-day hike required. Most adventures begin with a scenic water taxi ride from Kaiteriteri, transporting you across the dazzling Tasman Bay to spots like Anchorage Beach or Medlands Beach, where the walking begins.

One of the most popular sections of the Coastal Track takes you from Anchorage to Te Puketea Bay and Pitt Head, offering incredible panoramic views, peaceful bush surroundings, and the chance to spot native birds and marine life. With easily accessible entry points and varying trail lengths, these walks suit families, casual hikers, and photographers alike.

Wildlife, Lookouts & Coastal Treasures

For a classic day walk, the Anchorage to Torrent River route stands out, featuring lush greenery, river crossings, and a peaceful forest atmosphere. Keep an eye out for native birds and stop at Astrolabe Lookout for sweeping coastal views. If you’re lucky, you might even spot New Zealand Fur Seals (Kekeno) sunning themselves on the rocks below.

Further along the coast, the stretch from Tonga Quarry to Medlands Beach reveals quieter coves and unspoiled beaches—ideal for a break or swim. Or, if you’re up for a longer trek, the route from Awaroa to Tonga Quarry offers solitude, scenic variety, and a taste of the park’s more remote beauty, all within a single day.
