Do I need a visa to visit New Zealand?

In Visas and Passports

Visa requirements for New Zealand depend on your nationality.

Australian Citizens

Australian citizens do not need a visa or an NZeTA to visit New Zealand. You generally only need to present a valid Australian passport on arrival.

Visa Waiver Countries (e.g., USA)

Citizens of visa waiver countries do not need a visa but must hold a valid NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before travelling.

  • Standard stay: Up to three months.
  • British citizens: Up to six months.

All Other Countries (e.g., China)

If your country is not on the visa waiver list, you likely need to apply for a Visitor Visa before you travel. You can verify your specific requirements and apply directly via the official Immigration New Zealand website.

Note for Chinese & Pacific Island Nationals: You may be exempt from the Visitor Visa if you travel directly from Australia with an eligible Australian visa. You may only need an NZeTA.
