Doubtful Sound Wilderness Cruise

The Doubtful Sound Wilderness Cruise is a seven-hour experience beginning in Manapouri. The journey includes a cruise across Lake Manapouri, coach travel over Wilmot Pass and approximately three hours exploring Pātea Doubtful Sound aboard the Pātea Explorer. The tour is suitable for all ages, although reasonable mobility is required for its multiple transport stages and floating-wharf access. Transfers from Te Anau or Queenstown are not included.

Cross Lake Manapouri into Remote Fiordland

Begin with a scenic cruise across Lake Manapouri to West Arm, surrounded by forested mountains and isolated Fiordland scenery. From there, travel by coach over Wilmot Pass, following a remarkable road through dense rainforest to elevated views across Pātea Doubtful Sound. This lake-and-mountain journey is the only visitor route into the fiord, which has no direct public road access.

Your skipper or nature guide shares stories about the fiord’s Māori traditions, geology, flora and fauna while helping passengers watch for bottlenose dolphins, New Zealand fur seals and Fiordland crested penguins.
