The Private Mount Cook Photography Tour is a 3-day customised photography workshop based in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, with two nights at The Hermitage Hotel. Photograph Aoraki/Mount Cook, the Hooker and Tasman valleys and alpine lakes from sunrise to sunset, with opportunities for Milky Way photography when conditions allow and professional photography tuition throughout.

Alpine Photography in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park

Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park puts some of New Zealand's most dramatic alpine landscapes within reach, from views of the country's highest mountain to glacial valleys, alpine lakes, rivers and seasonal wildflowers.

This private workshop gives you three days to photograph the area in changing light and conditions. The itinerary is flexible and can be adapted around your photographic objectives, the season and your travel plans, with tuition and guiding throughout.

A Private Mount Cook Photography Workshop

This tour is designed around photography rather than a fixed sightseeing schedule. You'll have opportunities to photograph the national park at different times of day while receiving guidance to advance your landscape photography.

Most photography locations are reached via easy walks on well-graded valley-floor tracks. For photographers wanting a more physically demanding experience, there's also the option of a longer uphill hike to a higher viewpoint overlooking the surrounding peaks, glaciated valleys and alpine tarns.

When skies and conditions are suitable, the workshop provides the opportunity for pre-dawn astrophotography and photographing the Milky Way above the Southern Alps.

Because astrophotography depends on cloud cover, moonlight, season and other conditions, it can't be guaranteed. Your guide can instead adapt the photography programme to make the best use of the conditions available during your stay.

Bring your own camera and the photography equipment you normally use. A tripod is particularly useful for sunrise, sunset, long exposure and low-light photography. Equipment requirements can vary between tours, so check the individual tour inclusions and information before travelling.
