Your adventure begins with a scenic drive to Cass Bay or Charteris Bay, where your guide will provide all the gear and a quick introduction to kayaking techniques and safety. Even if it’s your first time, you’ll be gliding with confidence in no time. Once on the water, the harbour opens up with calm conditions, dramatic cliffs, and hidden bays waiting to be explored.

Paddling towards Quail Island, you’ll hear stories of its past as a leper colony and Antarctic training base while soaking in the peaceful atmosphere of this unique reserve. If conditions allow, the route may include a stop by the ship’s graveyard or sea caves on the far side of the island. Keep your eyes open for seabirds, and with a bit of luck, dolphins or penguins along the way.

Afternoon – Quail Island Exploration
Pulling ashore at one of Quail Island’s quiet beaches, you’ll enjoy a relaxed picnic with views across the harbour. The rest of the afternoon is unhurried—you might choose to wander the island’s walking tracks, take in the wildlife, or simply unwind on the sand. For those keen to paddle more, your guide will happily lead a short additional kayak along the coastline.

As the day winds down, you’ll make the return paddle across the harbour before packing up the kayaks. Back on land, there’s time for a bite to eat together before heading into town, wrapping up a day filled with coastal scenery, history, and island charm.
