Why Can You See Sperm Whales Year-Round in Kaikōura?

A deep submarine canyon approaches close to the Kaikōura coast, bringing the deep-water habitat used by sperm whales within reach of boat tours. The canyon supports a rich marine food web, and sperm whales are present throughout the year.
